We rarely take a vacation during the summer, but what we love to do instead is to fill our summer calendar with all of the amazing kid friendly activities that Los Angeles has to offer! This year we’ve got 10 activities on our list.
Summer Fun List 2015
1. Build a campfire for S’Mores at Dockweiller Beach. I’ve always wanted to have a beach bonfire, this is the year we’ll finally do it!
2. See the Galapagos IMAX movie at the California Science Center. What could be better on a blistering hot Los Angeles summer day than to get out of the heat and into a cool theater to see some amazing animals in a tropical paradise.
3. Go on a Fairy Hunt! We’ve been talking about doing this since Eleanor was little, I think it’s about time.
4. Visit the Butterfly Pavilion at the Natural History Museum. An annual favorite for our family.
5. Go to a park with a Splash Pad. Need I say more.
6. Spend a day at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Another favorite we try to do every summer, the kids love to see all of the different sea creatures swimming around. Their favorite exhibits are the shark and ray petting tanks!
7. Picnic Dinner at Sunset. We try to do this a few different times each summer, we pack up our favorite summer pasta and fruit salads and head to a favorite park for a picnic away from the noise (and inevitable mess summer brings – who can clean in the heat?!).
8. Go see a Movie in the Park or on the Beach. There are so many options for this all over L.A.
9. Visit the Getty Villa. We haven’t been since Eleanor was little. It’s such a beautiful museum housing the Getty’s collection for ancient Greek & Roman art. Admission is free, but remember to reserve your tickets in advance it you plan to go too!
10. New Family Portraits! Each year we hire a new photographer to take our own family portraits, and as a photographer I know that the fall is a photographer’s busiest time of the year. So we like to get ours done in the summer when we have a better chance of getting a date that works best for us and our busy schedule!
