There is one question that every client asks– “What should we wear?” For each of our full sessions we create personalized Pinterest boards just for your family.
But I don’t want Mini Session clients to miss out on the styling help?! So for our Summer Minis I put together a few tips and some summer mood boards for each member of the family!
Most styles can be mixed and matched, but as you choose your family’s wardrobe keep in mind these guidelines:
1. Brights are In
If you’ve shot with us before, you know our rule is to avoid neon and too bright colors, but for a poolside session, we are embracing ALL the bright colors, feel free to go crazy! That’s what summer is all about!
2. Complement each other without being identical
Choose two to three complementary colors and then wear different combinations of those colors.
3. Bring a cute summer outfit + swimwear
Let’s get a few summery shots out of swimsuits, before we dive into the pool. BUT since minis are shorter on time, make sure swimsuits are on underneath for a quick change of looks!
4. Don’t forget to Accessorize
We’ll have cute sunglasses for kiddos, but don’t forget to bring your own. And if you have fun sun hats, swim goggles, etc. bring them too!
5. We got you Mama!
I know that the idea of having photos taken in a swimsuit can be intimidating. But I need you to trust me on this one! The MOST important rule we have at the studio is, “Mama looks fantastic in every photo!” As a Mom (who happens to have a few pounds to lose) I know you don’t want any unflattering photos of yourself. So we promise you won’t ever see one. You’ll love your photos…even the swimsuit ones!

I always recommend you choose your own wardrobe first, and then coordinate the rest of the family around yours! You have lot of flexibility. For your summer outfit, you can go from shorts and a cute tee to a cute sundress, maxi or mini. For your swimsuit, this year we are loving high-waisted bikinis, stripes, color-blocking, and tropical patterns. Add a cute cover-up for an extra look, OR in place of a dress.
