Several times a year I teach a photography class for parents. I teach, mostly Moms, how to take better photos of their kids, and the importance of capturing all of those everyday moments that a professional photographer can’t be there to capture for them.
It’s no secret that I am passionate about the power of photography. Capturing a family’s love and joy and special moments in their life makes my heart sing. But what is a secret, is that I’ve been neglecting doing this for my own family. Over the last year or so I’ve taken embarrassingly few personal photos. And I think it’s time to change that.
For this new year I’m challenging myself to a weekly project to capture 52 Moments in my children’s lives. And I’m challenging you to join me! Our children will never be this age again, and I don’t want us to ever forget these moments.
Each Monday I’ll be posting here on the blog, as well as on Instagram, a theme for the week’s photo along with some photography tips and my favorites from your photos! If you’d like to join in just follow me @maggie_kg and post your photo on instagram any time during the week using the hashtags #justmaggie #52moments and tag 3 of your Mama friends each week that you want to invite to join us in the challenge. It doesn’t matter what camera you’re using, iPhone, point-and-shoot, or DSLR, all are welcome!
Let’s get started! This week’s theme is HAIR.
I am OBSESSED with my little George’s golden curls! I will be devastated if they ever darken or turn straight. They are such a sweet, natural beauty. They are so lovely that, paired with his long dark lashes, he’s often mistaken for a girl, no matter what he’s wearing.
This image was taken using only window light, directly opposite camera to get that lovely ethereal glow around those curls. ISO 640, f 1.8, 1/800. (To learn more about lighting and camera settings, grab a copy of my ebook, Photographing Your Kids)
